The Importance of Updating Software in the Household

All AV products have integrated circuits or “chips” in them. These chips need firmware and software to operate. Because software is not perfect, manufacturers release updates sometimes referred to as “patches”, “fixes” or “service packs”.

What are Software Updates?

Software updates or patches are computing data that improves usability, performance, and security within a piece of pre-existing software. These updates are produced by the same companies that developed the original software, and are released regularly or when a vulnerability is exposed or features improved.

Why are they important?

Every piece of AV hardware in your home is made imperfect. Production companies routinely publish software updates to fix these imperfections. In order to keep hardware running at its peak performance and to maintain its compatibility with new products, it is imperative that users commit to these free software updates. Updates are also vital to maintain proper security against today’s cyber threats.

What if I don’t update my software?

Hardware will not run at its peak performance, security will be more easily breached, and compatibility with new products will wane.

What kind of products should I update the software for?

  • Computers
  • Tablets
  • Smart phones
  • Media players (Sonos)
  • Televisions software to (Smart support TVs apps) run a sophisticated Blu-Ray with current players software (new discs that may is able only to read be played it)
  • AV receivers Wii Gaming U) platforms (Xbox One, Playstation 4, Any phone app within a computer, tablet, or smart

Both hardware and software have a finite life span. At some point in time the hardware or software will reach its end of life and will no longer be supported by the manufacturer. At Bravo AV we believe that when a product is no longer supported you should upgrade to the latest version to keep you system operating smoothly.
